Valere Cuppens

Valere Cuppens, 84, of Syracuse, passed away on June 25, 2016. Val was born on July 5, 1931 in Belgium. He immigrated to Massachusetts and served in the United States Army before moving to Syracuse in the late 1950s. He and his wife lived in Liverpool for many years while Val ran a newsstand in downtown Syracuse. Val was predeceased by his wife Yvette in 2004. Val was multi-lingual (French, Flemish, English, German, Russian) and enjoyed playing chess and discussing politics. During the last year of his life, he was well cared for by the staff of Sunnyside Adult Home in East Syracuse. A memorial service will be held at the St. Vincent DePaul Parish Center, 321 Winton St, Syracuse, NY 13203, on Sunday, July 3, at 1:30pm.
