Thomas Thomas, age 95, of Syracuse, passed away at his home on Oneida Lake on July 3, 2026. He was born on February 5, 1931, in Syracuse, New York, to the late Mary (Smarro Brousalis) and William (Vassilios Karadakis) Thomas.
Tom graduated from Central High School and, later, Syracuse University, where he earned a degree in political science. He served in the United States Army as a field artillery operations and intelligence specialist. In 1959 he graduated from Albany Law School and opened a law practice on South Salina Street serving the neighborhood where he grew up. Later in life, he pursued a new path as owner of the Wellington House catering in Fayetteville. For more than forty years he hosted weddings, and celebrations. Tom cherished the idea of being a small business owner where young adults from the local high schools were given the opportunity to have their first jobs.
Away from work, Tom found his greatest enjoyment at home on Oneida Lake, with his longtime companion, Shirley Myrus and his dogs. He was happiest spending his days working on home projects, talking with neighbors, welcoming family and friends, and taking time to appreciate the beauty and peaceful views. He especially enjoyed gathering loved ones for holidays and special occasions, creating warm memories that will be cherished for years to come.
Known for his feisty, at times stubborn nature, generous hospitality, and love for family and friends, Tom valued hard work and self-reliance, and took pride in creating places where others felt welcome. Whether practicing law, hosting an event at the Wellington House, or inviting friends to Oneida Lake, he found genuine satisfaction in bringing people together.
Tom was predeceased by his parents; his brother, George Thomas; and sister, Theresa Clark.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Shirley Myrus; his sons, Matthew Thomas (Jodi), Jason Thomas (Melissa), and Adam Thomas; his grandchildren, Lexi, Grace, Jackson, Thatcher, Arwen, and Skye; his nieces, Suzanne Clark and Deborah McNamee (Scott); his nephew, William T. Clark; and several grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and cousins..
