Thérèse Royal

October 2, 1963 — September 20, 2021

Therese Marie Royal, 57 of Syracuse passed away on September 20th, 2021 under a full moon with her children at her side.

Therese was born on October 2, 1963 in Groton, NY and raised in Eastwood. She attended Blessed Sacrament School and graduated from Bishop Grimes High School ('81). She married and moved to the University neighborhood in 1984.

Therese, RN, CCRN, BSN graduated from St. Joseph's College of Nursing in 1988. She worked in the Surgical/ Cardiovascular ICU at St. Joe's for 32 years. Committed to providing the highest level of care, she was a fierce patient advocate, treating all she cared for with dignity and respect. She was revered by doctors, an inspiration to her colleagues, and a great support to her close friends. Therese was named the recipient of the Nursing Practice Award in 2014 and nominated again in 2018. She retired from St. Joe's in 2020.

Therese enjoyed traveling with her adult children and especially cherished yearly family vacations to Cape Cod. She visited nearly every town on the Cape; enjoying lobster bisque, handmade jewelry, whale watches, the National Seashore, and the hydrangeas. She was most content overlooking the bay from the deck of the cottage in the town of East Sandwich. She could spend hours marking the tides, searching for sea glass, flying kites, tracking shark and seal activity, collecting shells, and capturing the sunsets.

She was masterful in researching new cities and discovering must see museums, restaurants, and attractions. In recent years, Therese stood beneath giant Redwoods at Muir Woods National Monument, fished for striped bass on the Napa River, got locked up at Alcatraz, boogie boarded on Oak Island, played billiards in Chattanooga, beachcombed in Indian Shores, snorkeled in St Petersburg, ate falafels in Central Park, and braved freezing temps for a photo op at Niagara Falls.

Therese cherished times spent with her family at weddings, beach days on Lake Ontario, Fallfest in Pompey, dinners downtown, and Christmas Eve at her parent's house.

Therese will be missed for her big red lips, her bright smile, her long curly hair, her stylish readers, her perfectly manicured nails, and the rings and bracelets that adorned her freshly lotioned hands.

Therese is survived by her daughters, Jacinta Royal and Leah Royal; her son, Mitchell Royal; her mother, Monica Minnoe; her siblings, Carmel (Sami) Maalouf, Mara (Bob) Nickels, Michael (Jeanmarie) Minnoe, Besty (Susan) Minnoe, Patrick (Laura) Minnoe; mother in law, Bessie Royal; sister in law, Tracy Royal; brother in law, Tom Royal; a dozen nieces and nephews, and many friends. Therese is predeceased by her father, Don Minnoe and her husband, David Royal.
