Susan Blizzard-Halleran

June 30, 1953 — December 31, 2020

Susan Blizzard-Halleran, 67, of Jamesville, passed away peacefully at home on December 31st. She was born to Henry and Jane Blizzard in Massapequa, New York, where she spent her youth. After graduating from Massapequa High School she studied undergraduate nursing at Columbia University followed by graduate nursing anesthesia, also at Columbia. While working at The Roosevelt Hospital in New York City, she met and married the love of her life, Dr. David Halleran. After spending a year in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the two moved to Syracuse in 1983 to start their family.
She was intensely devoted to her four children and was actively involved in various activities at the Holy Cross Elementary School and Christian Brothers Academy over their schooling years. She never missed a baseball game, swim meet, figure skating competition, or any other event in which they participated. She always stressed the importance of schoolwork and sports and games always came second to academics— lessons which have proven invaluable to their respective careers. She was very proud of each of her children, and would publicize their successes to anybody willing to listen.

Susan worked for thirty-seven years as a nurse anesthetist for CNY Anesthesia Group. Her warm, compassionate approach to patient care helped countless patients of all ages through surgery. She was an experienced and skilled anesthesia provider, and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge posed by her work.

Although she loved traveling around the world, Susan most enjoyed spending time at the family vacation home in Duck, North Carolina. The Outer Banks was an annual family destination for thirty years, the majority of which the Hallerans were accompanied by extended family and friends who, over the years, also became family. The memories made on those trips will be cherished forever.

She spent much of her last year away from work due to the COVID pandemic, over which time she and her husband completed moving into and renovating their new home— one that she looked forward to filling with memories with friends, her children, and grandchildren for years to come. Although her absence will always be felt, her family is committed to realizing this in her memory.

Susan is survived by her loving husband of 38 years Dr. David Halleran, her children Dr. Devin Halleran, Kerry Halleran-McCarthy (Michael McCarthy), Shannon Halleran-Twichell (Matthew Twichell), Kyle Halleran (Jennifer Clarici), four grandchildren, Carter (3), Harper (2), Maeve (1), and Hailey (7 months), two brothers, Bryan and Gary, several nieces and nephews, and countless friends around the world.
