Stavros Tamoutselis

September 2, 1932 — April 25, 2026

Syracuse

Stavros was born in the village of Drosopigi in Florina, Greece. At a young age he faced many struggles during World War II and the civil war that followed. His village was burned in the war and his family had to flee. The Meskos family of Skopia took them in and he remained grateful to them his entire life for their kindness. As a young man he proudly served in the Greek army. In 1953, his family, along with fellow Drosopigiotes, returned to rebuild a new Drosopigi, where he married his beloved Polixeni in 1957. Ten years later, along with his wife and two children, he immigrated to the United States on one of the last trans-Atlantic ocean liners and settled in Syracuse. He immediately went to work for Syracuse Concrete Pipe and after it closed he went to work for J.B. Schulze until his retirement. Stavros was a proud Greek American. He never missed going to city hall every March 25th to raise the Greek flag in honor of Greek Independence Day, always wearing the traditional tsolias outfit, which he also often wore on his Name Day. Everyone he met became his friend. He enjoyed growing vegetables in his garden. His passion was hunting – in the mountains of his village and in the fields of Central NY. He loved to sing and dance and was often the last to leave a party.

Stavros is predeceased by his loving wife of 53 years Polixeni, his parents Alexandros and Konstandina, parents in law Vasilios and Ekaterini Stathopoulos, brother Petros, brothers in law Demetrios Sidou, Sterios Marou and Evangelos Cokis, and sisters in law Vasiliki Stathopoulos, Anastasia Sidou, Angeliki Tamoutselis and Kleopatra Tamoutselis.

He is survived by his children Athena (Dimitrios) Theodorou and Athanasios, grandchildren Julia (Michael) Paolucci, Polixeni (Scott Sinclair) Theodorou, Troy (Cristie) Tamoutselis and Emilea (Sharif Nero) Tamoutselis, great-grandchildren Vincent, Rose, and Zoe Paolucci, Lincoln Tamoutselis, and Ayla and Reef Nero, sister Agora Marou, brothers Demetrios, Damianos, and Panagiotis (Fani), sisters in law Hrisoula Tamoutselis and Marianthi Cokis, brothers in law Triandafilos (Krystyna Kepa) and Konstandinos Stathopoulos, and many nieces, nephews, friends, and relatives in the US, Greece, and Australia.

His family wishes to thank Zisis and Chrisoula Anastasiou and Anastasia and Vickie Mihou for their constant love and support and all the friends who rang to say hello, who dropped in to visit, who brought home cooked meals and treats, and who blessed him with favors big and small.

His family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 28th, from 10 – 11 AM, at Saint Sophia’s Greek Orthodox Church, 325 Waring Road, Syracuse, NY, followed by the funeral service. Interment Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the church in his name.
