Spiros Mihou

November 10, 1930 — June 5, 2019

Spiros Mihou, 88, of Syracuse, son of the late Dimitrios and Vasiliki Mihou, passed away on June 5, 2019 at Francis House. He immigrated from Drosopighi (Florina) Greece to the United States in 1955 through the sponsorship of his beloved aunt, Paraskevi Peters.
Spiros was a devoted husband of 61 years to Anastasia (Nakis) Mihou and a loving father and grandfather.
He was a member of St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church. At the age of 70, he started bowling with the men's church league.
Spiros retired from Bristol-Myers Squibb after 25 years of service and was known as "Spike" by his co-workers. After his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and meeting with his buddies for breakfast. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and the ability to make people laugh.
During his youthful years in Greece, Spiros experienced firsthand the devastation of WWII and the Greek Civil War. As a young man, he served in the Greek army as Sergeant for the artilleries.
Spiros was proud to become a citizen of the United States in 1960. His favorite phrases to say were "It's all Greek to me" and "Only in America!"
He was predeceased by his sister, Chrysanthi Tzetzis and brother-in-law, Nicolaos Tzetzis.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Anastasia Mihou, daughter, Vasiliki Mihou, son, Dimitrios (MaryBeth) Mihou, sister, Stavroula (Trifon) Stiliadis, grandchildren, Steven, Nicole, Alexander, and Michael, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, June 10, 2019 at 10:00 am at St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church and visitation will be at the church from 9:00 – 10:00 am.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Hospice staff and Francis House staff and volunteers for their compassionate care and truly being "Angels on Earth". The family is extremely grateful for the extraordinary devotion of Spiros' childhood friend, Stavros Tamoutselis, and his first cousin, John Tonas, who visited him on a regular basis during his long illness.
