Spyridon D. "Spiros" Ganias, passed away peacefully at home on October 18, 2021. Born in Plesio Greece September 18, 1930, and emigrated to the United States in the 1960's after serving in the Greek Military.
He was the owner of several Greek Restaurants in various parts of New York state famous for his large portions at reasonable prices. Most notably Spiro's Diner in Cortland NY. He took great pride in providing food to the community and never turned away a diner in need of meal. he was able to live the American Dream, by providing for his family and owning his own business, he lived his life knowing that life in America, is where the streets are line in gold. Retiring in 1999, Spiros returned to Athens Greece to reconnect with his roots and extended family, before returning home to his family in October of 2021.
Predeceased by his Parents Demetrios and Vassaliki, brother Petros, sister Anthula. Spiros is survived by his wife Carol Ganias and daughters Millie Ganias, and Mary (Gregory) Earl of Liverpool.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 21, 2021 from 4-7 pm at Burns-Garfield Funeral Home, 3175 E. Genesee St. Syracuse. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 10 am at St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church, 325 Waring Rd. Syracuse. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
