Ruth Emma Emmons, 91, passed away August 13 at the Iroquois Nursing Home. Born is Syracuse the daughter of Albert C. and Emma M. Emmons.
Ruth was a graduate of Nottingham High School, Buffalo State Teachers College and earned a Master's Degree in Education from Syracuse University. She spent 32 years in the Syracuse City School District as a dedicated and loyal kindergarten teacher, who brought quality education to the children of the city of Syracuse. Ruth was a lifelong member or Plymouth Congregational Church, where she sang in the choir for many years. She enjoyed traveling in the summer throughout her career and in retirement. Her travels spanned the globe.
Ruth is survived by her brother Albert and his wife Anne of Township of Washington, New Jersey. Three nieces; Holly (Kevin) Conway, Amelia (Thomas) Flynn, and Christina (Kurt) Eisenhard; 5 great nephews, and 2 great nieces.
Calling Hours will be held on Friday August 23 from 4-7 pm at Burns-Garfield Funeral Home, 3175 East Genesee St. Syracuse. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 am at the funeral home with burial services to follow in Oakwood-Morningside Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to a favorite charity.
