Ronald D Holmes Obituary

Ronald David Holmes passed away on October 9th, 2021 from complications related to heart disease. He was the son of James and Katherine Holmes. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Ellen Holmes and his daughters Lisa Holmes and Allyson Holmes (Yvon). He was a grandfather to Timothy Salzman (Gigi) and Emily Richard. Ronald became a great grandfather to Jack Raphael Salzman in 2020 as well. He was a brother to Dorothy Williams (predeceased), James Holmes and Gwen North.

Ron (Reggie) was a native of Syracuse, New York. He was a proud graduate of Nottingham Highschool and Syracuse University. He received his Masters degree and a CAS certification from Syracuse University as well. Ron was a Social Studies teacher and coach for the West Genesee School district for 35 years.

Ronald was known as a talented athlete in his early years playing football, basketball and receiving a full scholarship to Syracuse University for baseball. He also played as a catcher for the Baltimore Orioles farm club. Ron was known for his "dry wit" and sarcastic nature. He was a voracious reader of historical literature and loved watching "Jeopardy". Ron loved coaching his football and golf teams and meeting "the guys" for breakfast in the mornings. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Drumlins golf course. Spring golf trips with Pat and the guys were among his favorite pastimes. Ron enjoyed viewing documentaries, spending time with Ellen, speaking with his grandchildren and watching videos of his great grandson.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the many people who offered support during these past months. A special thank you is extended to Roberta Williams and the entire Williams family, Daniel Beney, the Foley family, Jim Hughes, Pete Palumb and Jim Rosencrans. We are so appreciative of your kindness.
