Robert A. Perrine

Robert Alden Perrine, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 20, 2016. Born May 31, 1922 in Syracuse, NY. to Edna and Linden Perrine. His father's parents were Baptist missionaries in India. He loved being part of a Christian community and had a strong faith in God. Robert loved singing. He sang in a barbershop quartet & the church choir for years. He also enjoyed working outdoors, especially at their family outage in Fabius. Robert was a "Joygerm", a literacy volunteer, a loving and supportive husband, father, grand-father, great-grandfather and uncle. He was always ready to come to the rescue when he was needed. He had a quick wit and an easy smile and was loved and respected by many people.

When Bob was 6 years old, his mother brought him and his two younger brothers (Charles and Linden) to live with her parents. Bob's grandfather was an inventor and owned 3 card shops called The Treasure Chest. Bob started mowing lawns and doing odd jobs at a young age but his first real job was delivering card orders to his grandfather's stores (they were located in 3 different cities so Bob started driving as soon as he was of legal age).

Robert attended college at the SU School of Forestry; but, when the war started, he enlisted in the United States Army. While in training near the small town of Chester, Illinois. Bob met the love of his life, his wife Glodine. 1st Leuitenant Perrine was to become a pilot in WWII with the B-26 Marauders and flew his plane named the, "Green-Eyed Glodine." He was stationed in France and went on to be awarded the Purple Heart.

Bob and Glodine were married after the war, moved back to NY. And had two children, Cynthia and Mark. Bob and his brother, Charles decided to start a weekly publication called the Scotsman Pennysaver. Charles started his on the North side of Syracuse and Glodine and Bob started theirs on the East side of town. They called their papers "The Scotchman Shoppers Guides." Originally, they put their publications together in the basement of their home. Later, they moved to E. Syracuse. They published 5 penny savers and ran a successful business for over 30 years. He always loved cars and later on in life started collecting antique Cadillacs and he even had a sporty Ferrari that he and his wife, Glodine, enjoyed.

Predeceased by his wife Glodine and Son Mark.Robert is survived by his daughter Cindy granddaughters, Jennifer, Jessica and Stephanie, and a great-granddaughter, Rhiannon and a great-grandson, Matthew.

Funeral Services with military honors will be 10 am Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at the United Church of Fayetteville. Calling Hours will be held Monday, December 26, 2016 from 3-6 pm at Burns-Garfield Funeral Home 3175 East Genesee St. Syracuse.
