Syracuse

Robert Deane Allen, 69, of Syracuse, New York, passed away on August 20, 2025.

Born on May 18, 1956, in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, he was the son of Peter J. Allen and Katherine W. Allen. He grew up in Syracuse, New York, and graduated from Westhill High School and Syracuse University. Bob worked at Crouse Health for nearly 35 years, serving much of that time as Vice President of Communications & Government Affairs.

Bob married Betsy Rogers in October of 1987 in Geneva, New York. They have one daughter, Lark.

He cherished spending time with his family, which included countless happy memories on day trips and family vacations. He loved discovering new and interesting destinations in and around Syracuse, Stone Quarry Hill Art Park in Cazenovia being one of his favorites. Passionate about music, he loved finding new artists across genres and could always recommend the perfect song. One of his very favorite bands was The Raspberries, and he loved introducing others to their music. He spent much of his time outdoors and savored warm summer days, but also loved a good snowstorm for optimal skiing. Each year, he’d take meticulous care of his garden, growing beautiful tomatoes, hot peppers, herbs, and his favorite flowers, pink geraniums. A culinary enthusiast, he enjoyed many delicious homemade meals with his wife. He adored his pets over the years and was always willing to take in another stray cat. Naturally funny, his humor was legendary. He was a devoted parishioner of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.

He is survived by his wife, Betsy, and daughter, Lark, of Syracuse, New York; sisters Julie (Bill) Kucharski of Milford, New Hampshire, brother Tommy (Elizabeth Fillmore) Allen of New York, New York, and sister Sarah Curtis of Haily, Idaho; one niece and several nephews.

Bob was a wonderfully unique person and is sorely missed by all who knew him. Donations in Bob’s memory can be made to the charity Darkness To Light. (www.d2L.com)
