Rob Pfohl

September 28, 1953 — November 21, 2021

Joseph Robert Pfohl III—known to his family and friends as Rob—died on November 21, 2021, from severe burns resulting from an accident in the backyard of his home on Montrose Avenue in Solvay.

Rob was born on September 28, 1953 in Syracuse, N.Y. to his loving parents, Joseph Robert and Arlene Elizabeth (O'Malley) Pfohl. He attended St. Therese's Elementary and Nottingham High Schools. Shortly after graduating, Rob moved to Lake Tahoe, California, where he excelled as a talented skier, accomplished hang-glider, and skillful stone mason. He later returned to Syracuse where he worked for a time at Allied Sign Company, a business founded by his father Joe, for whom Rob served as a primary caregiver during the last year of Joe's life in 2019-2020.

As a young man, Rob was cherished as a "favorite uncle" by many of his nieces and nephews. A lover of animals, especially strays, Rob lived for years with a small troop of dogs and cats. He will be remembered with fondness by his siblings, Stephen, Christopher, Nancy (Pearson), Patrick, and Michael. A funeral mass and commemoration of Rob's life will be held at 10:00 AM at All Saints Church, 1340 Lancaster Avenue, Syracuse on Saturday, January 8, 2022.
