Richard Randolph (Randy) Rall, of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully with his wife and daughter by his side on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at Upstate University Hospital after a brief illness.
Randy was born in Brooklyn, New York, son of Marion (Day) Rall and Roy Rall. He graduated from Cazenovia High School and the Syracuse University School of Law. He was a Marine Reservist, and retired from the Internal Revenue Service after many years.
Randy was keenly interested in the environment and wildlife, and his many hobbies reflected this. He was a member of the DeWitt Fish & Game Club, Ruffed Grouse Society, Elk Foundation, Ducks Unlimited, CNY Wildfowler Association and he was an avid collector of decoy ducks and fishing lures. There wasn't an animal he wouldn't rescue, regardless of the danger it put him in, such was his love for all creatures great and small.
Randy was a man of few words, but the words he uttered were sincere and people always sought his counsel. He was a lover of books, poetry and history.
He is pre-deceased by his son, Richard Allen Crounse. He is survived by his wife, Sarah (Sherman) Rall; son, Donald Crounse; daughter, Wendy Giaccaglia (Nazzareno); brother, Rory (Cindy) Rall; sister, Shari Rall; and his nieces, nephew and cousins.
There will be no calling hours at this time, but the family will plan a remembrance event in the spring where his many friends can come together and raise a glass to Randy. The family would like to thank the brilliant ICU team on 8F; they could not have done a better job of looking after him.
