Ralph A. "Bud" Derby, 79 of Syracuse passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, May 26, 2016 after a long battle with cancer. Ralph was born July 20, 1936 to his parents Melvina and Ralph C. Derby. Ralph worked at General Electric for 30 years and another 15 years at Phillip Morris before retiring in 1996. Ralph enjoyed being surrounded by his family and grandchildren.
Predeceased by his parents, his brothers Bruce, Herbert and Carlton Derby and sisters Brenda Green, Debra Derby, and Stephanie Shelton. Ralph is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Lorretta A. Derby, two sons David A. Derby of Ruther Glen, Va.; Darron A. (Sandra) Derby of Pflugerville, TX. Four daughters Sabrina P. (Gary) Coleman of Dewitt; Charlotte D. (Silas) Hawkins of Lithonia, GA; Amy M. Bailey of Winston-Salem, NC; and Dominie J. Derby of Syracuse. 12 Grandchildren and 18 Great Grandchildren, two sisters Lorraine (Eddie) Brooks and Carolyn Wallace and three brothers George, Nelson and Franklin Derby.
Calling Hours will be held on Tuesday May 31, 2016 from 4-7 pm at Burns-Garfield Funeral Home, 3175 East Genesee St. Syracuse. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 1, 2016 beginning at 11am held at Grace Episcopal Church, 819 Madison St. Syracuse. Burial to follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
