Peggy Hoberman Owens passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 29, 2019, fully in accordance with her wishes. The cause of death was respiratory failure.
Peggy was born in Jersey City on August 8, 1939. She is the eldest of her two siblings Molly and Steve (deceased).
After graduating from Millburn High School with honors in 1957, she attended Syracuse University. She obtained her baccalaureate degree in education in 1961 and took her first job working as a special education teacher at Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School in Syracuse.
She was a special education teacher at Liverpool High School for 20 years and retired in 1995. She was an active volunteer for the Special Olympics during her tenure in Liverpool.
She loved to travel and visited the Bahamas, Rome, Cairo, Tehran, and Kenya, among other places.
Surviving Peggy are her sister Molly, brother in law Pete Anderson, daughters Nichole, Mia, Christina, Andrea, Christina Curca; sons Leo, Jr., Shaun, Jason, Jeffrey.
Niece Kristen, nephews Charles, Cory. Great-nephews Jordan, Tannyr, great-niece Page. Grandchildren: Damien, Jeffrey Lonnie, Angela Anabella, Nadine, Jason Steven, Jessica, Courtney, Jahlea, Big Tyler, Gianna, Leo III, LaQuaia, LeVonn, Simone, Isaac, Anthony Jr., LeMia, Winston. Great grandchildren: Ava, Lil Ty, Ella, Elandra, Anthony III, Quaion.
Beloved family dog, Willy Wilson.
Calling Hours will be on Friday, August 2 from 4-6 pm at Burns-Garfield Funeral Home, 3175 East Genesee Street, Syracuse, A funeral ceremony will follow from 6pm - 7pm.
