Peggie Keib

April 24, 1934 — November 15, 2021

Marion H. Keib (Peggie) passed away Monday, November 15, 2021, at her home in Dewitt. She was born to Arthur and Catherine Honeywell and grew up in the small town of Tunkhannock, PA. Peggie graduated as Valedictorian of Tunkhannock High School and went on to earn a bachelor's degree at Elmira College graduating Magna Cum Laude and was Phi Beta Kappa. After college, Peggie worked at General Electric in Schenectady, N.Y. until her college roommate introduced her to the love of her life, John W. Keib. She then moved to Syracuse, married John and they raised five children together. Once her youngest was in school, Peggie returned to school and received a master's degree in Rehabilitation Counselor Education from Syracuse University.
Peggie spent most of her over thirty-year career as the Director of Monarch Industries, a Division of Onondaga ARC, and was deeply involved in establishing job opportunities in the community for people with intellectual disabilities. In 2009 Peggie received the ARC of Onondaga Founder's Award. After retirement Peggie remained on the ARC Board of Directors, thus continuing her mission to enrich the lives of the intellectually disabled.

Peggie was an avid reader, loved classical music, sitting by the fire, and traveling, but she was happiest when at the family cottage on Lake Ontario watching the sunset with her husband, John, and the rest of the family. She was dedicated to John during their 52-year marriage, and they were rarely apart. Together they created a warm and loving home where everyone was welcome and their obvious love for each other and their family has instilled those same feelings in their children. When John became ill, Peggie was determined to care for John at home and she worked tirelessly and lovingly to ensure that he lived his most fragile years at home with her.

Peg was a fan of all sports, concerts, dance recitals and plays that involved her children or grandchildren. She could not have been more proud of her family. Peggie's personality was a combination of hard work and discipline mixed with warmth and compassion. However, it should be made clear that Peg was in charge. Her determination was relentless, and she never gave up on anyone or anything. She was fondly referred to by her son in law Rick Cramer as "Boss Lady."

Peggie is survived by her five children - Elisabeth Keib (Arnold) Conforti; Catherine Keib (Eric) Johnson; Mary Keib (Peter) Smith; Caroline Keib (Richard) Cramer, and; John Honeywell (Erin) Keib; sixteen grandchildren - Michael, Catherine, Julia, Christopher and John Conforti; Emily, Lucas and Griffin Johnson; Bridget, Molly and Greta Smith; Amanda and Maxwell Cramer, and; Johnny, Lucy and Charlie Keib; two great grandchildren - William and Audrey Conforti , and; her brother Charles B. Honeywell (Susan). She was predeceased by her husband John W. Keib and her brother David L. Honeywell. Peggie and her family will be forever grateful to her incredible caregivers Christopher White and Florinda Tillman, and all the wonderful people at Peace at Homecare.
