Paul E. Britton, 93, passed away on November 10. Born in Syracuse, he attended Bellevue Elementary School, Central High School and CCBI. Paul graduated from Syracuse University in 1943 with a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, and was a member of the Zeta Psi Fraternity.
Paul worked at Westinghouse Steam Division in Pennsylvania until he joined the Army in 1945. In 1947, he began working at Carrier Corporation as a test engineer. It was there that he met Marilyn Durkee, and they were married in 1948. Paul retired in 1982 after 35 years at Carrier. Paul was a proud member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), where he served as Scholarship Chairman, Chapter President, Regional Chairman, Chapter Historian, and a member of the Board of Governors.
Paul was an avid golfer and member of Drumlins, playing until the age of 91. He also enjoyed bowling, snow skiing, and tending his many flower and vegetable gardens. He loved to travel, and enjoyed trips to England, Bermuda, and all 50 of the United States. He always looked forward to taking his family on summer camping trips throughout the United States and abroad. Paul was an active volunteer with the Boy Scouts and his church. He was a member of the Corvair Club and was a proud owner of a 1965 Corvair Monza convertible that he frequently drove in local parades. While living at The Nottingham, Paul enjoyed singing in 'The Nottingales,' as well as playing bridge and bingo.
Paul was predeceased by his wife Marilyn, brother William Britton, sisters Louise Howe and Jeanette Bridge, and daughter-in-law Gini Britton. He is survived by two sons, Dick (Jan) Britton and Tom (Kris) Britton; daughter Cathy (Mike) Thorpe; grandchildren Michelle (Chris) Pickard, Laurie (Peter) Pincus, Tim Thorpe, Matt (Sarah) Britton, Bridget Britton, and Laura Britton; great-grandchildren Kathleen and Jessica Pickard, and Evie and Britton Pincus; and sister-in-law Joanne Britton.
Calling hours are on Friday, November 20 from 4 to 6 pm at Burns-Garfield Funeral Home, 3175 E. Genesee St., Syracuse. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 21 at All Saints Church, 1340 Lancaster Ave., Syracuse.
