Syracuse

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Patrcia Murphy Deacon, 79, on November 25, 2023, in Syracuse, NY. Pat left this world peacefully surrounded by her family.

Born on December 26, 1943, in Rome, NY, Pat was the daughter of the late Walter and Beulah Murphy, the youngest of their four children. She grew up in Rome, NY helping on the family farm and went to St. Aloysius Academy for high school. She attended Le Moyne College where she received a BA in History. She later received an MA in Adult Education from Syracuse University. She began her career in public service working in the Syracuse Mayor’s office in the mid 1960’s. She spent the majority of her professional life as a director at JobPlus. After retiring from JobPlus in 2007 she decided she still had a calling to help others and she went to work as a Special Projects Developer for the adult education program at Syracuse City School District.

Pat was an avid reader, a longtime fan of Syracuse Stage and enjoyed knitting. She was a loving mother, grandmother and wife who was always there to support her family. She was also a huge fan of the New York Yankees. She would watch or listen to every game and was hoping to witness one more World Series Championship.

Pat is survived by her husband Ross Deacon, children, Beth (John) Marshall, Colleen Deacon, and Kevin (Anna) Deacon, and her grandchildren, Jacob Marshall, Adrian Freeman, Noah Marshall, Lucy Deacon, and Quinn Deacon. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Thomas Murphy, Phil Murphy, and her sister Joan Murphy.

Funeral services will be private and there will not be calling hours. Pat continued her generous spirit by donating her body to science for medical research. In Lieu of Flowers please make a donation to Central New York Alzheimer’s association, https://www.alz.org/centralnewyork/donate
