Olga Anastasiou, of Jamesville, passed away on Wednesday July 18, 2018 with her family by her side. She was born on June 20, 1925 in Kato Ydrousa, Florina, Greece. She came to the US in 1958 with her 3 children to join her loving husband Athanas, who came in 1956 for work and a better life for his family.
Olga worked for several years at Crouse Irving Hospital and retired from Nettleton Shoe Factory in 1982. Olga enjoyed spending time with her family and loved to tell stories of her husband Athanas and the "old country". She had a passion for gardening and maintaining her beautiful flowers and only wanted rose bushes on her birthdays. Olga was a member of St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church.
Olga is predeceased by her husband Athanas Anastasiou (November 25, 2006) who she loved and missed dearly, along with her sister Mitra Panovska and her parents Stefanos and Alexandra Christou. She is survived by her children, Sofia (Mike) Vasiliou, Maria (Vasilios) Peios, George (Aliki) Anastasiou and her sister in law Olga (George) Ioannou. She was the best Baba (Grandmother) to her 7 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren along with her nieces and nephews. Baba Olga will be forever loved and missed.
Calling hours will be 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Burns-Garfield Funeral home 3175 E. Genesee St., Syracuse, NY with Trisagion prayer at 6 p.m. Services will be 11 a.m.Saturday at St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church. Burial will be at Oakwood Morningside Cemetery.
