Nathan Patrick Hezel, 42, died May 10, 2025 unexpectedly after an accident in New York, NY.
Born in Houston, TX, November 18, 1982, Nathan was welcomed into the Hezel family by parents, Richard and Janice O’Neil Hezel, and big sister, Julia. Shortly after his birth, Nate and his family returned to home roots in New York, where he lived nearly his entire life, cultivating a love of the Syracuse area, the Adirondacks, and particularly New York City. He deeply loved his family, immediate and extended. As a youth Nathan developed many dear friends, who remained connected in spirit throughout his life. Also, he began his encyclopedic knowledge of foreign, high-performance sports cars, which endured into adulthood and lured him to Stuttgart, Munich, and Modena. Nate converted his energetic skateboarding and roller blading as a youth into skilled skiing and snowboarding.
Of his many talents, Nate had a wonderful and quick sense of humor, and he conversed fluently on many topics. His early sense of justice and gift for conversation and persuasive discussion impelled him toward the study of law.
Nate graduated from Manlius Pebble Hill School, earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Fordham University and a law degree from the University of Buffalo and was admitted to the New York Bar. He was employed in equity and brokerage firms in New York and most enjoyed assisting start-up companies, especially the family business.
Nathan was preceded in death by grandparents Francis and Patricia Hezel and Kenneth and Kathryn O’Neil and Earl Kurtz. He is survived by parents Richard and Janice O’Neil Hezel, sister Julia Hezel and nephew Dorian Hezel.
Memorial services will be scheduled for late June in Syracuse.
Gifts in Nathan’s memory may be made to A Tiny Home for Good (atinyhomeforgood.org) or the Alden Street Foundation (aldenstreetfoundation.org) or the Hezel Family Fund at the Central New York Community Foundation (cnycf.org).
