Nancy Klasen

November 20, 1926 — March 15, 2022

Nancy Lawson Klasen, 95, passed away peacefully at home on March 15, 2022. Nancy was born to Nellie and Charles Lawson on November 20, 1926 in Hackensack, New Jersey and lived in Syracuse most of her life. She graduated from North High School in 1944 and went to work at EM O’Donnell. In 1947 she married Alfred Klasen and raised three children, before returning to work at Kemper Insurance, where she worked as an executive secretary, retiring in 1982. In retirement, Nancy and Al enjoyed many years of traveling, bowling, square dancing, and enjoying life with family and friends. She was an avid reader and loved doing crossword puzzles. Nancy is predeceased by her husband, Alfred; her son, Dennis; and her great-granddaughter, Charlie Leah. 

Nancy is survived by son and daughter-in-law, David and Barbara Klasen of East Syracuse; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Douglas Freeman of DeWitt; grandson Daniel (Christine) Klasen; granddaughters Kendall (Jeffrey) Leone, Erin (Ralph) Contreras, Johanna (Peter) George, and Amanda (Brandon Coppola) Murdie; and great-grandchildren Hayden, Juliet, Dani, Miriam, Gabriella, Sophia, Cole, Adelynn, and Giovanni. A special thank you to her caregiver, Kerri Ogden, who provided exceptional and loving care to Nancy.

A calling hour will be  from 10-11 am on Saturday, March 19, 2022 with a service to follow at 11 am at Burns-Garfield Funeral Home, 3175  E Genesee St.  Followed by interment in Woodlawn Cemetery. Contributions may be made in Nancy’s name to the “Marcoccia Perinatal Endowed Fund in memory of Charlie Leah” at upstatefoundation.org.
