Mildred Koch Franklin Moreland, aged 91, died unexpectedly on June 5th, 2019 . Millie was predeceased by her husbands Pete Franklin (1964), father of her four children, and Roger Moreland (2002). Millie is survived by her children, Nancy (Bill) Finch, Laurel (Gene) Mulvihill, Mark (Mary Ann) Franklin and Andrew (Susan) Franklin, 13 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; 3 step children, John Moreland, Roger Moreland, Nancy Ballagh, and was predeceased by Gregory Moreland.
Born and raised in Lawrence, MA she graduated from Wheaton College (1949) and earned a Master's Degree from Syracuse Univ. (1974). With her husband Pete she settled in the Syracuse area in 1955. Millie found love again later in life and married Roger in 1992.
Millie had a strong and abiding faith in God and chose to live in the moment. She was non-judgmental, intellectually curious, empathetic, inquisitive (sometimes bordering on the interrogative), loved the adventure of travelling, and espoused the benefits of education. She was an active listener (long before there was such a term and even with hearing loss). She was known for simple acts of kindness and never, never forgot a birthday.
Millie was a quietly strong, independent, resilient woman who met many challenges with uncommon grace and equanimity. She knew what was dear – family and friends – not things. Her currency was a deep and very genuine interest in other people. She was a daily inspiration to her family and will be greatly missed. We love you.
