Matthew M Hoysak, 82, formerly of Syracuse, NY died June 15, 2024 at his home in Ecuador South America. Born August 23,1941 in Syracuse, Matty attended Bellevue Elementary School and graduated from Most Holy Rosary High School class of 1959. He played basketball for MHR during the storied years of the Parochial League. Matt’s favorite sport was baseball in which he excelled, most notably pitching. He was a valued member of his high school team and Valley Babe Ruth.
Matt continued his education at SUNY Farmingdale and the University of Buffalo, studying electronic technology and engineering. He specialized in industrial and commercial refrigeration, air conditioning, and cooling control systems. Throughout his career Matt was employed by Carrier Corporation, Johnson Controls, ConAgra and BradyTrane Services.
Matt saw much of the world. After college he traveled through Europe, hitch-hiking most of the way staying in hostels and B&Bs. Matt’s employment took him to Asia where he lived and worked in Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, and the Philippines. He worked in various parts of the United States, including Florida, Alabama, and the Outer Banks and eastern region of North Carolina, also several military bases. After retiring he moved to Ecuador where he resided on the shores of the Pacific Ocean.
Matt enjoyed hobbies of boating, fishing and hunting, as well as lifelong interests in radio communication and country-western music. He loved tropical birds, always providing a good home for one or more. He liked to cook and enjoyed entertaining family and friends.
Matthew was predeceased by his parents and is survived by his children, grand-children, sister, cousins and friends. Services were held in Ecuador; private service and burial will be in Syracuse at a later date.
