Mary A. Moore, 84, went home on Friday, August 25. 2017, surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Oneida, N.Y. Mary was married to William (Bill) Moore, for 53 years. She retired from Chase Bank after 20 years of service. After enjoying a period of retirement, Mary returned to work for the Syracuse City School's cafeteria. She was the matriarch of large family with 8 children, 21 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Mom's strength was loving her children and was expressed by each of them calling her, "My Mom". Family mattered most to Mary. She was an amazing cook. She loved nature, sitting on the back porch of her family home and looking up to the sky watching the planes fly by. She was an avid sports fan and could recall statistics like no other. Mary brought direction, purpose and most importantly love to her family. She was proceeded in death by her husband William "Bill" T. Moore Jr., mother Sarah Jane Smith, Father Lyle Smith, brothers Butch, LeRoy, Raymond (Smith), Sister-in-law Emily "Mimi" Moore Reese, Mother-in-law Mildred "Nana" Moore. Mary is survived by a sister Sally Tucker (Phil), brother Harry Smith (Betsy), children William T. Moore III, Christine A. Moore, Margo G. Moore-Allen, Mark J. Moore (Karen), Robin V. Moore and late husband Melton, Daniel Moore, Glenna R. Bradley, and Jonathan M. Bradley and several nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren and her beloved canine Jax and cat Rufus.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday August 31, 2017 from 4-7 pm at Burns Garfield Funeral Home, 3175 East Genesee St. Syracuse. Funeral services will be held on Friday September 1 at 10:30 am at Grace Episcopal Church, 819 Madison St. Syracuse. Burial to follow in Oakwood Cemetery. www.burnsgarfield.com
