Mary El-Amir, aged 74, died peacefully on April 30, 2018 with her family by her side after a brief illness. Mary was born August 16, 1943, in Amman Jordan the daughter of Yousef and Munira Shamma. Mary married the love of her life George El-Amir of 57 years in 1960 and immigrated with her young family to the United States in 1974. She enjoyed traveling, being at work with her co-workers and cooking for and spending time with her family particularly thanksgiving. She worked at Crouse Hospital for 35 years as a Cardiac Cath Lab Technician and Pharmacy technician. She always emphasized the importance of achieving higher education to her children and grandchildren. She was a loving and strong willed mother who gave everything to her family. Her family meant everything to her, and she always made sure they were well cared for. She was also an incredible person and a wonderful friend to people who knew her. She will forever be loved, missed and will never be forgotten by her family and close friends. The world is a little emptier today without Mary and her passing was felt by many here and in Jordan and Syria, but we are grateful for the years we had her with us on this earth.
Mary's family would like to extend a special thanks to all the Doctors and Nurses of the Medical ICU and Neurosurgical ICU at Upstate Hospital for their relentless care of our beloved Mary El-Amir. Their human compassion and unwavering care was truly extraordinary.
Mary is survived by 4 children and 11 grandchildren. Surviving are her husband of 57 years George, Sons Nabeel (Abeer) El-Amir and Andre ( Sanaa) El-Amir, Daughters Sawsan (Samir) Haddad and Layla (Majd) Elias. She had 11 grandchildren Sara, Kristen, Elaina, George, Zain, Issa, Habeeb, Nabeel Jr., Rania, Yasmeen, and Gabriel. Brother Musa Shamma, Sisters Hanna and Nuhala, Several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are on Tuesday May 8th, 2018 at St. Elias Orthodox Church from 4-7pm. The funeral mass will be on Wednesday May 9th, 2018 at 10:30am at St. Elias Orthodox Church, and she will be laid to rest at Oakwood Cemetery
