Mary Dougherty passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family Sunday, August 8, 2021. She had celebrated her 92nd birthday on August 1.
Mary worked in the Jamesville-Dewitt School District for many years as the school secretary at JD Middle School, Moses- Dewitt Elementary, and Tecumseh Elementary schools.
She was pre-deceased by husbands Charles Dougherty (1960) and Charles Holland (2008), her sister Celestine Smith, her brother David Fanning, and her grandson Brett Helmer.
She is survived by her sister Kathryn Fanning of Westvale, N.Y. and brother Kevin Fanning of Albuquerque, N.M., her daughters Susan Brown (Leo) of Dewitt, N.Y., Ellen Helmer of Manlius, N.Y., her sons Mark Dougherty (Lonnie) of Rochester, N.Y. , Kevin Dougherty of Denver, CO., grandchildren Bridget Bronson (Dylan) of Pittsford, N.Y., Andrew Brown (Jacy Thompson) of Oswego, N.Y., Chris Helmer of Burlington, VT, Mark Helmer (Amy) of San Diego, CA, Robert C. Brown (Meghan Kelly) of Dewitt, N.Y., and Ciana Dougherty of Rochester, N.Y. Mary is also survived by her three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
As Mary requested, A private family Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Holy Cross Church.
