Mary Ann Lewis, 62, of Onondaga Hill, born in Rochester, NY, passed away on January 15, 2016, with her family by her side. Mary Ann married Charles Lewis on October 4, 1982. She was the daughter of Charles G. and Georgia (Kanelis) Katopes. Mary Ann graduated from Syracuse University with a Biochemistry degree, where she was the coxswain and captain on the rowing team. She continued her studies at Cornell. Retired from Bristol Myers-Squibb after 27 years as a biochemist and purification operations supervisor.
Her greatest passion was bagpiping and Scottish music. She began playing the pipes in 1972 and made a major impact on the global pipe band community, tutoring many successful students and competing internationally, including at the World Pipe Band Championship.
She also enjoyed skiing and served with the Song Mountain Ski Patrol for 30 years.
She was was predeceased by her father, Charles, and beloved dog, Ruairidh.
Mary Ann is survived by her husband Charlie, children Andrew and Allison, mother Georgia Katopes, sister Diane (James) Kennedy, in-laws Dr. James and Catherine Lewis, many nieces and nephews and one great-niece.
Calling hours will be Wednesday January 20, 2016, from 10-12 at St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church with a service immediately to follow.
