Marjory Schuster

July 31, 1930 — February 17, 2018

Marjory Agnes Wilson Schuster, 87, passed away on February 17, 2018 surrounded by love. She was born on July 31, 1930 in Irondequoit, NY, to John and Mary (Fraser) Wilson, Scottish immigrants. Raised with three brothers, James, John (Jack), and Jeffrey, who predeceased her, they spent their youth in and near Lake Ontario. She graduated with a teaching degree from Brockport College. She married George Briggs Schuster and had three children, Eric (Janet), Lynn (Basil), and Krista (James). The family spent their summers boating on the St. Lawrence River. George passed away in 1983 and Marge centered the family for the rest of her life. She was an adoring grandmother to her three grandchildren, Jade Darcy Nelson (Lonnie), Kevin Darcy, and Reed Schuster, and her great grandchild, Logan Nelson. Her teaching career spanned over 30 years, with the last 20+ in the Syracuse City School District. She loved teaching and was active in the SCSD teacher union until she retired. She stayed thoroughly involved as a retiree through her service on NYSUT, regional, and local retired teacher committees. She was a devoted parishioner of Park Central Presbyterian Church where she made wonderful friends, sang in the choir, taught children, and served as a Deacon.

Marge was the joyous and generous heart of her family. Her inquisitive, loving spirit was always on display, whether in meandering early morning debates about the pressing issues of the day, outings with her precious grandchildren and great grandchild, or on her many journeys in Europe and across America where she reveled in the details of history, art and culture. She was big hearted and open minded, laughed at herself often, and was always up for a new challenge. She believed in the power of individual action to make positive change, and lived those values, constantly raising her hand - and lending a hand - to lift up those in need. She lived a life of uncommon grace, humility, laughter and love. She leaves an emphatic mark on this world, and will be dearly missed by her family, friends, colleagues and anyone who was fortunate enough to know her.
