Marian L. Stone, 100 1/2, of Syracuse, departed this life on April 11, 2016, while sleeping peacefully and receiving loving care at Francis House. She was a native of Hudson, NY the daughter of Frank Leslie Lampman and Eugenia Raymond Lampman. She was born on October 14, 1915. She graduated from Hudson High School and subsequently from St. Luke's Hospital, School of Nursing, NYC., class of 1936. She moved to Syracuse upon concluding her education to continue her nursing career and met her future husband, of 52 wonderful years, the late, Theodore Fisher Stone. They were married on April 22, 1939 and together raised four children. She worked at Good Shepherd and St. Joseph Hospitals and the last 40 years of her career employed by Onon. Co. at Dr. A. C. Silverman Hospital. She considered herself a nurse her entire life. For a period of time at Silverman she was the R.N. Rep. in contract negotiations with Onon. Co. and a board member of the NYS Nurses Assoc. She was active at Grace Episcopal Church serving as a vestry member and spent more than 10 years working for the processes that led to the priesting of women in the Protestant Episcopal Church, USA. She served in the NYS Council of Churches and was a member of its legislative committee. She was a board member of the Episcopal Diocese of CNY, Thornfield Conf. Center. She was active in many civic pursuits and organizations including, appointed by Governor Rockefeller's office to the advisory committee in design specifications for health related facilities (now law); board member Onondaga Health Association, appointed by Syracuse Mayor to explore the possibility of combining City and County Offices of Consumer Affairs. She developed the health and safety curriculum towards High School Equivalency, later replicated across New York State's Dept. of Ed., Five-county coord. Family Planning Advocates of NYS Inc., member DAR, Hudson. In an interview once, she described herself as being "Against all artificial barriers to full participation of any citizen in our society". She was a board member of CNY Chapter of NOW and represented it at the state level. In 1978 she was recognized by Syracuse's CNY Chapter of NOW as one of three "Feminists of Honor". The honor paid tribute to several CNY women who with little or no recognition have worked for many years to eliminate discrimination and to enlarge opportunities for women. She was an advocate for women's issues but stood up for the rights of all. She was predeceased by her husband, sister Nathalie Elizabeth Lampman, and her son Peter L. Stone. Marian is survived by her son Philip T. (Suzanne) Stone Syracuse; daughters Nathalie S. (James) Buckley Liverpool, Elizabeth F. Stone (Robert Smith) Smithtown and daughter in law Sandra (Schmidt) Stone Webster. 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 AM on April 30th at Grace Episcopal Church, 819 Madison St., Syr., NY. Private burial will be at a later time in Hudson.
