Margaret (Margie) Zeece

December 3, 1920 — November 25, 2015

Margaret (Margie) Zeece, 94, died early Wednesday morning, November 25, 2015, at Holmes Lake Manor in Lincoln, NE. From her birth in Wood River, IL. on December 3, 1920, to her death, she was devoted to her family and her faith. Her long life provided her the opportunity to touch the hearts of all who knew her – even those she consistently outpaced at bingo in her Holmes Lake Manor community.

With her mother and older sister, Sylvia, Margaret moved to Greece at the age of eight. Shortly after her return to the United States in 1938, she met and married George Zeece on February 27, 1944, in St. Louis, MO, where the couple settled after George's military service in the Army Air Corps. In 1980, Margaret and George moved to Syracuse, NY, where they shared many happy years with family, lifelong friends, and the St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox community. In 2010, Margaret moved to Lincoln, NE, to be closer to her son and his family.

Left to honor Margaret and remember her love are her son, Michael (Pauline) Zeece; three grandchildren; Michael (Regi) Zeece, Eric (Amy) Zeece, Megan Zeece (Evan) McLaughlin; three great-grandchildren: Sawyer, Xander, Zoie; brother-in-law, Steve Zeece; and nephew Steve (Margo) Peters. Margaret was also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Sylvia, and many other treasured relatives.

Margaret will be remembered as a soft spoken and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a friend who drew on a deep-seated faith to face adversity with courage and life's gifts with grace.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 4, 2015 at noon at St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church, 325 Warning Rd., Syracuse. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The Trisagion service led by Father David Smith will be held at 4 pm Thursday, December 3, 2015. Following the service, the family will greet friends from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at Burns-Garfield Life Celebration Home 3175 East Genesee St. Syracuse.

The Zeece family would like to extend our gratitude to all those who provided loving care to Margaret, especially as she prepared for her last journey in life. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Margaret's name to St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church in Syracuse, NY.
