Margaret Alice Cherepes Decker passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 15, 2020. Margaret was born on October 6, 1924 the child of two Hungarian immigrants Charles and Lola Cherepes in Alhambra, California. She had a sister Helen Cherepes LaForest Byrne who preceded her in death on February 5, 2018. During the depression the family migrated from California to Detroit, Michigan where Charles had a job in an auto factory and Lola ran the family-owned grocery store and butcher. Margaret, married Edward Arthur Decker on June 22, 1946 in River Rouge, Michigan and they had 5 children. Margaret and Edward made their life in River Rouge, Wyandotte and Trenton, Michigan, Wilmington, Delaware and Syracuse, New York where her husband Edward preceded her in death on October 17, 1989. She worked as a Transcriptionist at Upstate Medical Center from which she retired 25 years ago. She is survived by her sons Carl (Joanne), Edward A. Jr., Todd, Ralph (Donna) and Kevin Decker, 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren. Calling hours will be from 4-7 pm on Thursday, February 20 at Burns Garfield Funeral Home, 3175 E. Genesee St. Syracuse, NY 13224, funeral services will be held at 11 am on Friday, February 21 at the funeral home with private burial at White Chapel Memory Gardens, Dewitt, NY. Contributions in lieu of flowers can be made to American Red Cross Disaster Relief or Leader Dogs for the Blind.
