Mary Virginia Ryan Mooney died on Friday, January 25, 2019, after a brief illness.
Born on May 21, 1924, in Syracuse, she was a graduate of Nottingham High School then Seton Hill College, Greensburg, Pennsylvania, Class of 1946. During World War II she was selected to attend Cornell University for an accelerated Engineering training program for women sponsored by the Curtis Wright Company. After graduation she was employed by Carrier Corporation in Syracuse and General Electric in Schenectady, NY, focused on helicopter design and testing. She later served transliterating maps from Russian and other foreign languages into English at the U.S. Office of Geodetics in Washington, DC.
She is predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Robert J. Mooney, and her sons James T. Mooney and John P. Mooney. Surviving are her children Patricia M. Loucks (Thomas), Catherine R.M. Underhill (Stephen), Paul R. Mooney, Anne V.M. Anthony (Chris), and Maureen M. Louis (Eric); her 20 grandchildren Jennifer Tucker, Matthew Loucks, Erin Leffler, Michael Mooney, Daniel Mooney, Cailey Underhill, Devon Underhill, Jack Underhill, Sean Mooney, Kelley Mooney, Margaret Mooney, Christine Mooney, Natalie Mooney, Stephanie Mooney, Lindsay Haddon, Brandon Anthony, Sarah Anthony, Connor Anthony, Robert Louis, and Samuel Louis; seven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The Memorial Mass will be held Friday, February 1, 11:00 am, at Immaculate Conception Church, 400 Salt Springs Street, Fayetteville, NY, followed by burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Dewitt. Calling Hours are Thursday, January 31, 4:00-7:00 pm at Burns-Garfield Funeral Home, 3175 E. Genesee Street, Syracuse.
