On Dec. 11,2020, Lucy Jane McLean passed away at home after a brief illness.
A native of Utica, New York, Lucy attended college then sought a career with the U.S. Customs Agency. She was the first female inspector to be assigned to the U.S. Port at Alexandria Bay, N.Y.
Her other assignments included Montreal, Toronto, Ohio, Panama Canal, Syracuse Airport and others. Upon retirement, Lucy worked at New Readers Press until she s 89 as she liked to keep active both mentally and physically.
Her love of travel took her to India, Japan, Ireland, throughout the U.S. and her favorite city, New York.
Lucy loved Holy Cross Church in DeWitt, mystery books and her friends and family.
Her greatest asset was her ability to listen and become immersed in everyones lives and families.
She leaves behind dear friends that were like family-Alan and Betty McMutrie and family, Karen Bailey and family, Norma Cyr, and Sr. Rose.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her two sisters, Ellen Louise McLean, and Fredrica Bailey and her first cousin Elizabeth Jane (McLean) Metzger (Bill).
Her remaining relatives are Barbara Baker, Sally Talarczyk(Jerome), Nance Greene(John), Raymond William Metzger II, Deborah Antosiewicz(Robert) as well as their many children and grandchildren.
Special mention are her neighbor, Erwin DeLaroca, Tracy Johnston, her nurse and owner of By Your Side Companion, her long term caregivers, Eva, Marina, Corien plus Sylvia and Jimmy. They all provided excellent care, companionship, hope, faith and improved quality of life.
We are deeply saddened and will miss Lucy's spirit, kindness, generosity and love.
