Leonard J. Hayes, 88, passed away January 4, 2022 and is survived by a loving wife Barbara. A lifetime Syracuse and Jamesville area resident, Len Graduated from St. Patrick's High School on Tipperary Hill.
After attending Le Moyne College for two years as a physics major, he switched to the University of Detroit, another Jesuit institution, where he received a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Len also obtained an MS Degree in Engineering Administration from Syracuse University, and was a licensed Professional Engineer in New York Stat. For 36 years Len held engineering and management positions at General Electric Military Departments in Syracuse, where he was involved in design, installation, and marketing of ground-based radars around the world. He was a member of GE's Elfun Society. After GE retirement in 1993, Len spent 15 years as a Forensic Engineer with JDR Systems Corporation in Syracuse, providing product liability research and expert witness testimony in State and Federal Courts.
For the past 53 years Len, Barbara and family have enjoyed their vacation home and many friends at Eagle Bay on Fourth Lake in the Adirondacks.
Survived by his wife, Barbara and their five children; Therese (Don) Gigliotti, Colleen (Peter) Ayer, Margaret (Patrick) Murphy, Jennifer (Dan) Kelley, and Paul (Tayla Burch) Hayes; 7 Grandchildren and 2 Great-Grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at All Saints Church Lancaster Ave Syracuse at 10 am on Friday, January 7, 2022. Visitation will be held from 9-10 am at the church prior to the service. Please follow NYS Covid guidelines, masks will be required. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Dewitt.
