Kaliope Panarites passed away peacefully at the age of 96 in her home surrounded by family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Bill and all her 4 brothers and sister; Victor, Tony, Theo, Nicholas and Mary; her son in law Andy Speno. Leaving behind a daughter, Vicky Speno, a Granddaughter, Kathleen Pluff and a Great Grandson, Damien Russell. Kaliope Gavalas was born to George and Angelica Gavalas in Augusta GA on August 28, 1925, where she lived until she married her wonderful soldier, William (Bill) G. Panarites and settled in Ilion NY and then Syracuse, NY.

Kaliope loved her family, friends and church community where she devoted many volunteer hours. She sang in church choirs all her life, even at an early age. She was dedicated to the Costume Jewelry Booth at the St. Sophia Church Festival. When she traveled to Greece she would order jewelry and have it shipped to Syracuse, then manage the operation of the jewelry booth. Sometimes she directed the Art Booth at the St. Sophia Church Festival. She was also head of the Greek Cultural Booth at the Festival of Nations held at the War Memorial.

She loved opera, antiques, traveling and flowers. She was gifted as a floral designer mastering bridal work. She was employed by Markowitz, Coleman, Quinlan and Zimmerman Florists and owned her own shop on Warren Street for a while. She was an accomplished artist that loved to study the art of painting. She even helped her husband Bill at the original Cosmo Restaurant on the corner of Crouse and Marshall Streets in the early 1950's and the Park Warren Deli on Warren Street.
