Joe Pfohl

September 1, 1925 — February 29, 2020

Joseph Robert Pfohl Jr., 94, died February 29, 2020 at home surrounded by family. He left this earth and is now reunited with his beloved wife Arlene.

Joe was born on September 1, 1925 in Syracuse, NY. He graduated from Central High and was studying engineering at Syracuse University when he enlisted in the Navy. Joe was in flight officer training and proud of his time in the service.

Joe spent the next six decades of his life involved with Allied Sign Company which he founded in 1950. It started as commercial window displays, trade shows, city wide Christmas decorations and eventually evolved into CNY's largest sign company. Joe was a hands on business owner, a very hard worker known for his strength and unmatched work ethic.

Joe was a family man. He worked hard to support a loving home. His generosity and unconditional love will be cherished forever. Joe was "crazy about" his wife Arlene, his devotion to her for 70 years was unparalleled, especially during their final decade together. His most important work was witnessed during those years as he cared for Arlene at their 142.

Joe is preceded in death by his wife Arlene, his sisters Mary, Lucille, Emily and Betty, brothers Charles and Jim and parents Emily and Joseph Pfohl Sr.
Remaining to lovingly remember him are his children Stephen (Clare), Christopher (Ann), Joseph R. Pfohl 3rd, Nancy (Paul), Patrick (Randee), Michael (Betsy). His grandchildren Katie (Neil), Timothy Joseph, Ashley, Christopher Joseph Scott (Nancy), J.P., Brett, Kaley (Shane), Molly (Garrett), Marlee (Wes), Delaney (Bennett), Sawyer Joseph, Annie, Remy, Rory; and great grandchildren Una, Brooklyn, Miles Joseph, Nathaniel and Riley.

Joe lived a life that was full of pride, opinions, faith, patriotism, independence, high spiritedness, and selflessness. So let us celebrate Joe's life and continue his legacy. Thank You Dad, Papa Joe, we love you and miss you…until we meet again. The family would like to thank Dr. James Longo and staff, Dr. Siddiqui and Kim, Hospice of CNY, Father Fred Daley and Barbara Hadley for their roles in Joe's life.
