Joan Ripley Banks, born January 1, 1950 in Hamilton NY, died at home in Syracuse on August 23, 2019. She was a graduate of Morrisville College and worked as a Registered Nurse for more than 40 years. Her career reflected her commitment and care for others. Joni saw the dignity and value in each human life and met every challenge with empathy and compassion. She retired from Hospice of CNY. Joni was known to her family and friends for her honesty, humor, love, wisdom and strength. She enjoyed reading, music, learning and the companionship of her pets. Joni cared about peace, tolerance and understanding. Although her concern for future generations left her unsettled in these current times, she had optimism. Joni is survived by her spouse Marian Waelder; daughters Maxie (Timothy) Alban Brahs and Luchiana Alban; 4 grandchildren Kiera, Dayna, Timothy and Stella; her siblings Jacquelyn Williams and Stephen (Patricia) Ripley; mother in-law Patricia K. Waelder; sisters in-law Karen and Kristine Waelder, Kathleen Haines, Monica Naslund, Maureen (Ross) Getman; brothers in-law Eric (Phyllis) Waelder, Neil (Ruth) Waelder and Paul Waelder; cousins and numerous nieces and nephews. Joni was predeceased by her parents George and Kathryn (VanSlyke) Ripley and her sister MaryAnne Ripley.
Calling hours will be Saturday August 31, 2019 9:30-10:30 am at Burns and Garfield Funeral Home 3175 E. Genesee Street, Syracuse, NY. A funeral service will follow at 10:30 am. Buriel at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Pompey, NY.
