On July 27, 2016, Dr. Jerry Brown was called to his final resting place. Jerry was born January 15, 1941 in Gadsen, Alabama to Stella Brown. On July 28, 1960, he enlisted in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged on July 27, 1964. During his time in the Navy Dr. Brown played in the Naval band and played at the inauguration of President John F. Kennedy.
After his career in the Navy, Dr. Brown received his bachelor's degree from Lemoyne College in 1970. He went on pursue a medical degree and graduated from SUNY Upstate Medical Center on June 2, 1974. During medical school he served as chief resident between 1974-1978, Dr. Brown became a board certified Radiologist on June 9, 1978. During his career as a Radiologist, Dr. Brown served as a board of trustee member at Lemoyne College from 2001-2010. His many awards and accomplishments include the Lemoyne College Ignation Award of Professional Achievement in 1999.
Dr. Brown retired from St. Joseph's hospital and enjoyed retirement by playing golf and traveling. Dr. Brown's love of music never waivered. He played saxophone throughout college and medical school and remained a member of the band Prestige until the present time.
Predeceased by his mother Stella Brown and older brother Charles Churn. He is survived by his daughter Kimberly Elizabeth Brown, his son Gregory Alexander Brown, his brother John Brown and his wife Bonnie Brown. He is also survived by many cousins and close family.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 from 4-7 pm at Burns-Garfield Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, August 3rd at 10:30 am at Burns- Garfield Funeral Home, 3175 East Genesee St. Syracuse. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
