Jehangir Vania

Syracuse

Jehangir “Jangoo”, “Jeh” Ardeshir Vania of Syracuse passed away on August 28, 2024. Born in Mumbai India. Jangoo was happiest when he was Jangoo Uncle, playing with children and being the uncontested champion of the wrestling match. He loved his extended family, many of whom came to become part of his family when he came to Syracuse University. His generosity and compassionate nature enlarging the family all the time.

At heart, an engineer, he was educated at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur,1968, where he earned a B.S in Electrical Engineering. Jeh arrived at Syracuse University in 1969, where he studied Electrical Engineering. He spent his career working in the steel and energy industries, with Crucible Steel, New York Power Authority and Entergy Corporation at James Fitzpatrick Nuclear Plant. Even being able to help design the infrastructure of several buildings at Upstate and RIT.

Survived by his beloved wife Dolly, his three children Xerxes [Lillian], Dinyar [Rachele] and Persis [Kevin]. Grandchildren Cyrus, Gabriel, Iyanah and Kai. Siblings Aloo and Rustom, a number of cousins, nieces, nephews and countless friends .

The Vania family would like to extend a special thanks to Kathy Hill, Morgan Hill, Valerie Ruckyj, Samantha Ruckyj, Mary Kelly and Cathy Fuoco for their care over the last three years, Jeh loved seeing them in the mornings and evenings. And also to Dr. Mantosh Dewan and the team at the Upstate Hospital ER and ICU. Their support in his time of need was exceptional and eased his transition. Private services were held on Friday, Setember 30 at Woodlawn Cemetery in Syracuse.
