Jeffery T. Cox, 33, died unexpectedly on January 19th. Jeff was born in Syracuse, NY, on April 10, 1983 to his wonderful mother Martha Austin. Jeff spent most of his life in Syracuse, NY, where he was surrounded by the family & friends he adored.
He was a graduate of the Jamesville-DeWitt high school class of 2002, where he played varsity lacrosse and enjoyed spending time with his loyal friends. After high school, he spent a number of years developing as a talented craftsman - a hobby and passion he enjoyed throughout the remainder of his life. Jeff then returned to school, first attending Onondaga Community College, and ultimately graduating from Syracuse University - his beloved grandfather's alma mater – where he graduated with a degree in Applied Mathematics. After completing his degree, Jeff took a position at National Grid, where he served as a Data Analyst in the company's Syracuse headquarters.
Jeff's life was an exemplary example of living life to its fullest and making the most of every day. Most of all, he was an extremely devoted son, brother, uncle, grandson, cousin, and friend. His love for family and friends is unrivaled and he will always be remembered for his kindness, passion, devotion, and incredible intellect.
Jeff is survived by his loving mother, Martha Austin; three siblings, Bryan, Matthew (Cassandra), and Courtney; his grandmother Mary Austin; his niece – whom he absolutely adored – Nora Haskell; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and a large group of loyal and devoted friends. Jeff was predeceased by his role model and grandfather, Carl I. Austin.
A Mass celebrating Jeff's life will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Holy Cross Church, Dewitt. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4-7 pm at Burns-Garfield "A Life Celebration" Funeral Home, 3175 East Genesee St. Syracuse. Jeff will be laid to rest alongside his grandfather in St. Mary's Cemetery Dewitt.
