Jean Ward

Jean N. Ward, 101, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2024 at her daughter’s home in Fairbanks, Alaska, where she had resided for the past three years. Born July 7, 1923 to Dr. Wilber Newell and Mabel Nunn Newell. Jean graduated from Goodyear-Burlingame School and attended Syracuse University where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. She was a former member of the American Horse Show Association and the Onondaga Golf and Country Club. She was a life member of the Crouse Hospital Auxiliary and did volunteer work there as well as for the National Red Cross and Everson Museum. Predeceased by her husband of 59 years, John P. Ward, and her brother, Wilber W. Newell. Survived by two sons, John P. Ward, Jr. (Cecily) of Charleston, South Carolina, and Timothy L. (Pamela) of Fayetteville, New York, and her daughter, Nancy Cope (Roger) of Fairbanks, Alaska. She leaves 26 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Private graveside services to be held at Oakwood Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Contributions in Jean’s memory may be made to the Crouse Health Foundation.
