Our brother left us on September 29, 2015, released from the bonds of earth, he resides in peace now. Jay was born on April 18, 1943, to Jay and Polly Haight, who predeceased him.

Jay was a lifelong resident of Syracuse. He held a bachelors and master's degree from Syracuse University and faithfully attended and followed Big Orange football and basketball. He excelled at golf and won many awards and honors for his play, including a block S from Syracuse University. In his later years, he often traveled to Italy, where he was an adopted citizen of Florence.

Jay touched the lives of many hundreds of students during the thirty years he taught junior high school social studies. He was proud of their achievements and they knew he gave them his all in the classroom. He was in Who's Who in American Teachers, his proudest honor.

Jay leaves behind to cherish his memory five sisters, Elizabeth Dubbs, Ann Haight and Steven Abney, Phyllis and Dave Grummon, Sally and Reid Oliver, and Barbara and John Hodges; eight nieces and two nephews, and two grandnephews and one grand niece.

Jay was an unforgettable presence in the life of his family. As an oldest brother, he watched over each of his sisters and cared deeply for their happiness.

There will be a graveside service for family on Monday, October 5. A memorial service is planned for the spring.
