Jane Dunnigan Pigott passed to her eternal reward on Wednesday, December 18, 2019.
Jane attended Holy Rosary school and the Franciscan Convent Schools for girls where she graduated. She then attended Syracuse University. On April 10, 1944, she married the love of her life, James Pigott.
Her strong catholic faith was evident in many ways; including her founding of the Society for the Protection of the Unborn in 1971, which later became the Syracuse Chapter of Right to Life. She was responsible for the annual Syracuse March for Life, which continues to this day. She was instrumental in procuring the monument dedicated to the unborn at St. Francis of Assisi church in Bridgeport. Jane designed the "Our Lady of Knock Float", in 1984, for the St. Patrick's Day Parade, and rode on this float for more than 30 years. She was active in local politics working on many candidates' campaigns including former member of Congress Ann Marie Buerkle.
She will be remembered for her winning personality, Irish wit, and the deep love she had for Our Blessed Mother.
Jane was predeceased by her parents, Dr. Joseph and Evelyn (McConell) Dunnigan. her two brothers. Joseph and Thomas Richard (Dickie) Dunnigan, and her loving husband, James Pigott. She is survived by her daughter Penny (Ron) Mayer and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 10-11 am Friday, December 27, 2019 at Holy Cross Church, 4112 E. Genesee St. Dewitt. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM. With interment at St. Mary's Cemetery, immediately following the Mass.
