Trudy Williamson, 87, formerly of Ferndale, Michigan died on November 9, 2019 in Syracuse, NY. Trudy was born in Mariana, Arkansas where she lived for several years with her grandmother & grandfather (Lula & Albert) before moving to Ferndale, MI to be with her parents (Estella and Jack). She was formally educated in Ferndale — a city that forms part of the Detroit metropolitan area — graduating from Lincoln High School in 1952. "Mo-Town" was her home. Being a child of the Great Depression shaped her personality. She was a hard-worker, made her daughters' clothing when they were young, and wasted very little. Trudy loved to help others in need and she also loved the Lord, whom she served by being active in the Unity Church for several decades. Although she worked outside of her home at various jobs, including Sanders' Candies, she was best-known for craft-making, gardening, and cooking. She participated in craft fairs and even sold decorated cakes. Because of her open-door policy and her penchant for home-cooking in surplus, folks stopped by for dinner unannounced. They were always welcomed. Trudy was a compassionate mother and grandmother, who enjoyed nothing more than being supportive to her children and spending time with her grandson, he being the absolute light and love of her life. She tended to many others as well: her nieces & nephews, her friends, any person or animal in need. In 2009, after being diagnosed with a mild cognitive brain disorder, she moved to Syracuse, first residing with her daughter, eventually moving to a local nursing home. Trudy loved life and, only when nearing the end of her own, did she start to slow down. Her spirit, however, always remained strong. Many angels await Trudy on the other side including her husband Lloyd (2005), two of her loving children, Marcus (2002) and Victoria (2012), and her siblings, Angelo Mitchner, Pearl Samples, and Geri Sears. She is survived by her daughter, son-in-law, and grandson: Tanya Williamson, Leeland and Ayden Whitted of DeWitt, NY. She also leaves several nieces and nephews in the metropolitan region of Detroit. She was much beloved by all; this she knew and never doubted.. All services will be held at Burns and Garfield beginning with calling hours on Saturday, November 16, from 2:30pm -3:30pm followed by a Memorial Service honoring her life between the hours of 3:30pm - 4:30pm. A private burial will be held. In lieu of flowers, please share a small act of kindness, a memory, or donate to the National Alzheimer's Association at https://sites.google.com/prod/view/trudy87
