George Kanelis

August 22, 1926 — September 24, 2017

George Kanelis passed away of natural causes at his home in Morristown, New Jersey on Sunday, September 24, 2017 at the age of 91.

George was born and raised in Syracuse, NY and later after serving in the U.S. Army Signal Corps for 2 and half years during World War II. He attended Syracuse University receiving a degree in Chemical Engineering in 1950. George worked as an engineer at several chemical plants including the Solvay Process Division before advancing to the headquarters of the former Allied Corporation where he was employed for a total of 37 years.

George is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Mary (Pappas), his adventurous sister, Georgia Katopes, a sparkling niece, Diane (James) Kennedy, 2 Great nephews Brian (Katie) Kennedy of Syracuse, Dr. Andrew Lewis of Minneapolis, 2 Great nieces, Alissa Kennedy and Allison Lewis both of Syracuse and a Great Great niece Cassandra Kennedy.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 5th at 11 am at St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church, 325 Waring Rd. Syracuse. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church.
