Fred Jackson

Frederic W. Jackson, 83, entered into eternal life on July 30, 2024. Born in Syracuse, NY on February 2, 1941, Frederic was the son of Anne (D’Onofrio) Jackson and Frederick H. Jackson. He married his beloved wife Suzanne (VanSwall) Jackson on October 16, 1967 and they shared a marriage of 56 years. Fred graduated from Nottingham High School and enjoyed playing football and speed skating. During high school, he spent a year living in Italy with his parents while his father taught Italian for a semester in Florence for Syracuse University. He continued his education attending Syracuse University where he earned both his undergraduate and graduate degrees. While attending Syracuse University, he was an active member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He remained close friends with several of his fraternity brothers.

Fred began his career as a middle school English Teacher. He later changed his career to being a life insurance agent and financial planning advisor, earning numerous accolades throughout the years. He enjoyed playing golf with his friends, and especially with his two sons. He was passionate about Corvettes and had a deep love for the 1000 Islands, where he and his family spent their summers. He loved both boating and fishing. A devoted fan of Syracuse University Lacrosse, Football, and Basketball. He served on and was President of the Upstate Chapter of the U.S. Lacrosse Foundation.

Predeceased by his mother Anne (D’Onofrio) Jackson, father Fredrick H. Jackson, and his beloved son F. Matthew Jackson. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Suzanne (VanSwall) Jackson, daughter Jennifer (Stephen) Hadley, son Douglas (Laura) Jackson, daughter in law Molly Jackson, Grandchildren Hannah, Devin, and Haley Jackson, Cameron and Damien Jackson, Madison and Lilly Hadley; 2 Great Grandchildren Noah and Jameson. Cousins Sr. Maureen D’Onofrio CSJ, and Kathleen (D’Onofrio) Reeves, and several nieces and nephews. He wanted to be remembered for his pride in and love for his spouse, children, and grandchildren, and his love for his friends and pets.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at All Saints Church, 1340 Lancaster Ave Syracuse. Calling Hours will be held on Wednesday, August 7th from 4-7 pm at Burns-Garfield Funeral Home, 3175 E. Genesee St. Syracuse.
