Frances E. Ferris

September 7, 1924 — August 28, 2016

Frances E. (Gokey) Ferris 91, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday August. 28.

Fran was born on Sept. 7, 1924 in Oswego NY and was known to her hometown as one of the Gokey twins. She fell madly in love with a handsome local lad, George Ferris. The two were married on December 9, 1944 in the midst of WWII. After the war they moved around central NY a bit, and finally settled in Syracuse where George took a job teaching in the Syracuse City School District. Here, they raised their seven children.

Fran was a full-time housewife, mother, grandmother and card shark. She loved surrounding herself with family and friends. Fran was a little woman with a huge love. The Ferris door was always open as the kitchen oozed warmth and laughter. She welcomed many to her home in the heart of the Westcott Nation. If you were especially blessed, she knitted you one of her Icelandic afghans.

Fran is predeceased by her beloved husband, sons William (Maryln) Ferris and Charles (Mary) Ferris, and her brother Walter (Rita) Gokey. She is survived by her sons George (Betty) Ferris, Johnny Ferris, Bernard (Colleen) Ferris, and daughters Marjorie (Kurt) Hildreth and Jennifer Carnes. She is also survived by her twin sister Jane Rafferty and her kid sister Marianne VanBuren. Fran was also blessed with 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Frances, a devout Catholic, has been a member of All Saints Parish since its inception as St. Therese's Church. There will be a memorial mass to celebrate her life at 11:30 am Thurs. Sept. 1st at All Saint's Church. As there will be flowers wherever Fran goes, the family just suggests prayers for peace in these turbulent times. After the services there will be an "open house" for family and friends at Fran's home.
