With Sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Elvira Mary Bajjaly on February 2, 2016, 27 days before her 84th birthday. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends. She gave such courage and hope and reminded her family of the preciousness of life. She touched the lives of many people with her smile and generosity, and maintained her gentle kindness all the way until the end of her life. She was caring and compassionate, always putting the needs of others before her own. Elvira will always be remembered for her smile, warmth and energy, along with her love for life, family and friends.

She was born in 1932, in Jerusalem, Palestine, to Hanneh and Salim Majlaton and was one of eight siblings. Elvira emigrated to the United States from Palestine in 1956 with her family. She was involved in many associations including the Festival of Nations and the International Wives Club and was an ESL teacher in the Syracuse City Schools. Elvira was well respected in the Arab-American community for her strong faith and work in the church and was well known for her culinary skills.

Predeceased by her loving husband Kamel Bajjaly. Elvira leaves a legacy in her five children, Susie Abboud (Charbel), Nabil (Carol), Tony, Annette Habayeb (Nabil), and Jackie. Ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Elvira's life will be held on Friday, February 5th, with calling hours from 5-7 pm at Burns-Garfield Life Celebration Home, 3175 East Genesee St. Syracuse. She will be remembered during a Mass on Saturday, February 6th at 10 am at Holy Cross Church, 4112 East Genesee St. Dewitt. Burial to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
