Elena Marie Lemondes

Elena Marie Lemondes, 16, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, June 17, 2016. She was born in Leavenworth, Kansas on August 7, 1999. She spent most of her life in Fairfax, Virginia, followed by 2 years in Bel Air, MD prior to moving to Jamesville, NY in Nov 2013.
The loving daughter of John and Martha Lemondes of Jamesville, NY, she is predeceased by her Grandmothers Bertha Fuqua and June Lemondes and her Papou, John Lemondes Sr. She is survived by her sister Olivia, her brother JJ, her Papa, Bill Fuqua, and Stanley her faithful companion. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins from New York to California.
Despite her challenges she lived a rich, loved life. And, above all else, Elly was a teacher of compassion and grace to all who knew her. Although she couldn't outwardly speak to us, we knew she loved us and communicated this to us in many ways. She had a unique way of letting her preferences be known, like an outburst of anger for leaving her, followed by warmth and joy when her daddy returned from Afghanistan.
Additionally, Elly handled her challenges with dignity and poise and was a living example of these traits her entire life. Even though she was dependant on us for so many major decisions, she survived through courage to keep going on to the next day. Like her mother, she was kind, loving and gentle and like her father, she never quit. She stuck it through until her body finally wore out.
Because of Elly, our family was enriched in ways most never experience. One of the most important was all of the great people we would have never otherwise met. To the hundreds of doctors, nurses, teachers, specialists, nanny's, bus drivers, clergy, friends, family and so on……..thank you for looking after our daughter.
And as a final tribute to our faith, in spite of all of the challenges and difficultites Elly faced, she never choked on Holy Communion. This miracle presented itself a score of times through the administration of communion by Father 's Harmand, Father Zaferes, Father Pavlakis, Father Burdusi and Father Smith in St Sophia's, St Katherine's and Sts Mary Magdalen and Markella Greek Orthodox Churches. May her memory be eternal.
Visitation with her family will be Tuesday, June 21 from 4-6 pm at Burns-Garfield Funeral Home 3175 East Genesee St. Syracuse. Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Wednesday June 22, at St Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church, 325 Waring Rd. Syracuse. Donations in Elly's name may be made to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central New York.
