Elaine Dimkos passed away on April 1, 2025. Born in Kefalonia, Greece on July 20, 1935 to Vasilios and Melpomeny Potamianos, Elaine immigrated to the United States following the 1953 Ionian earthquakes. A gifted seamstress, she graduated from Patras Sewing & Design School in Greece.
Elaine's first job in the United States was at Crouse Hospital (who sponsored her immigration), and she later worked at Lincoln Bank for many years before transitioning into real estate with her husband, John. She taught sewing in her home studio to many students over the years. She also worked as a translator for various organizations and consistently offered her support to those in need.
Elaine was known for her delicious Greek desserts, most notably her baklava. She cherished her time with her grandchildren, creating lasting memories with each of them. Elaine had a special bond with her dog, Daisy, who brought her immense joy and companionship. Elaine was a woman of faith and will be remembered for her quiet strength, kindness, work ethic, and devotion to her family.
Elaine was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, John; her brothers, Peter and George; her sisters, Eftihia, Maria, and Anthoula .She is survived by her daughters, Melanie Isaacson and Cathy Kousmanidis (Nick); her grandchildren, Marina Isaacson (Sean Al Gattas), Nicole Talbot (Greg), Brianna Isaacson, Christiana and Anthony Kousmanidis; and numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
Elaine’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at The Nottingham RHFC for their care and support during her residence.
A private service was held at St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church and burial at Oakwood Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church, 325 Waring Rd., Syracuse. NY 13224.
